Short run, high quality offers many creative options.
New technology and quality advancements in digital printing, incorporated by front end software programs and sophisticated output presses, gives you the flexibility and creative options for the design and messaging of short run, high quality, full color printed products. The unique features allow you to print static data (the same copy on each piece throughout the run) or variable data (unique customized/personalized copy on each separate piece) for effective one-to-one marketing campaigns. Literally on demand — whether it is one copy or thousands.
The Process
One of several non-impact technologies where the image is formed by a computer controlled printer. (Generally accepted to include: electrostatic, ink jet, laser photo, and thermal transfer.) Also including waterless inks and toners.
Digital Printer
Any printing device that is capable of translating digital data into hardcopy output.
Digital printing has emerged as a complementary solution to traditional printing services for customers with special needs including short runs, faster turnaround or on-demand printing of personalized marketing communications.
There are a few limitations for production specifications for large quantities, paper stocks and the size of the printed sheet. ASL can guide you through the options and alternatives. Digital print technology can also be used or in combination with traditional printing, engraving, foil stamping and embossing.
Paper Selections
You can choose from virtually any paper type for high quality results. Both coated and un coated text and cover papers are acceptable. Papers with a smooth finish are recommended. Press size sheets are limited to 12 x 18, contact your representative for further detail. If you select a text and cover stocks with a textured finish or in darker colors, a press proof should be requested to review the final printed quality.
Ink Colors and Types
Digital printing is created from the traditional 4 color process build (the standard CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) format. Spot colors or PMS
® colors are identified and calibrated to the CMYK match. A press proof can be provided for color approvals.
Typestyles/Fonts
Select type fonts, design layouts and prepare files following the same requirements as you would for a project that would be produced on a traditional offset press. There may be some limitations to specific type fonts. Very small type (less than 7 points), type fonts with fine serifs and/or containing a design of thin and thick lines within the font, particularly in use within a full bleed or reverse type design. A review of the layout and design, along with a color press proof will determine any quality concerns and provide an option to adjust the size or selection of the font. Contact your representative for details and options.
